Jade Stone of Heaven

Tuesday 25th September 2018

Lecturer: PETER LE ROSSIGNOL

This lecture explores the importance and symbolism of jade through a vast period of Chinese history, from tomb pieces to exquisite items that decorated the palaces of far Cathay in the 15th to 18th centuries. Nephrite jade was carved form Neolithic times but one emperor's obsession led to the introduction of jadeite, indigenous to Burma, and produced the finest piece of jadeite known.
